Peak 1 of 8, did a variation of "Mummy Mania" we dubbed "Mummy Masochism" because we tacked 2 bushwhack 11ers on to the end. Appx 19 miles, 7000 vertical - climbed Chapin, Chiquita, Ypsilon, Fairchild, Hagues, Mummy, Tileston and Bighorn.
Just climbed Chapin b/c we were short on time, but a good reminder that I am really fat and out of shape. Altitude kicked my butt since I had only been in Estes for a day
Route Climbed: Normal Route Date Climbed: august 2008
During a road trip in the United States in august 2008 I climbed Mount Chapin. Continued to Mount Chiquita and Mount Ypsilon. Mount Chapin is the warming-up for what is still to come and although is bypassed by a lot of hikers, it is very rewarding to climb the trilogy in one day...
First car at Chapin pass on a Sunday morning at 6am. Summited promptly before going on to Chiquita and Ypsilon.
The CCY trek is a terrific intro to Alpine hiking!
From Fall River road, my son and I went up Chapin, partly in the midst of a large herd of elk. Truly spectacular. We also saw elk in Estses Park when leaving before sunrise to get to trailhead.
With Eric Holle. From Chapin Pass. Watched the sun come up about 6am with nice colors. Good hike feeling good. MUCH LOVE TO MICHELLE AND SARAH FOR THE 5AM DROP-OFF AT THE PASS! KISSES!
Two days after Longs Peak we did the "easy triple" of Chapin, Chiquita, Ypsilon. Perfect weather all the way and we made friends with a Marmot who let me get within 3' to take his picture.
