This was my first trip to the Wild Basin area and I have to admit that I was highly impressed. Area was still covered in snow. Left trail at Ouzel Falls and headed SW through the trees to gain Copeland's east ridge. On the way back we descended to Ouzel Lake and followed the trail from there.
Up from Ouzel Lake down via Pear Lake Date Climbed: Jun 27, 1971
Total acents = 2. First time from Wild Basin Ranger Station, up via Ouzel Lake, down the south slopes (a little cliffy in places) to Pear Lake and back to the ranger station via the Finch Lake Trail. 2nd time from Ouzel Lake and back the same way.
I climbed this solo from the Ouzel Lake side. I saw another climber decending below me on the east ridge as I was going up the north east side. When I finally reached the summit after the long (unending) tundra slope I couldn't get the lid off of the summit register, so I took a self timed photo of myself and a panorama from the summit. Even though it is not difficult climbing it is a long day with 4646ft of elevation gain.
