Summit & Ski!!!  Sucess!

Approach from Meadow Creek Basin in late May. Hiked to snow line at 10,000 feet and skied the remaining 3000ft of elevation up and down. Great adventure!

Bears  Sucess!

Cool climb up the northeast ridge (Phelps Mtn Road), and saw 11 grizzlies. Very surreal experience seeing so many bears. Trip Report

Francs   Sucess!

We did this one via the Phelps Mountain Road. Fun, steep 4wd road up to 11,000'. Fun hike with Victor Zhou, where we had several grizzly bear sightings and were also motivated to hurry with some potential shitty weather. We had plans of doing Phelps Mountain on the way out but threatening weather persuaded us to call it good.

Great area

Saw numerous elk and about 120 antelope on the Phelps Mountain Road. Many Bear scats. My 14 year old daughter and I climbed this on a rainy/ partly cloudy day. Beautiful views though. Had to get out before the Phelps Rd turned bad.

Phelps Mtn Road  Sucess!

Wyoming's only reasonably daytripable 13er! What a treat. Easy but interesting hike. This range is very different than others in Wyoming! Followed bear tracks in new snow to within half a mile of the summit! Beware the 4x4 road when wet; lots of slick mud turned us around a few days earlier. This was WY 13er #34/35 for me. Black Tooth remains...

Beautiful Summit  Sucess!

We did the Northeast Ridge in a day (returning through Jack Creek drainage). Absolutely spectacular area. Lots of bear tracks and scat but we didn't see a bear, which was fine with me.

From the Phelps Mountain Road  Sucess!

What a summit! I did Francs the short way, the top of the Phelps Mountain Jeep Road - it's much easier that way.

Memorable hike  Sucess!

Great hike from Meadow Cr. trailhead. Hard to find the trail at first but great trail once you find it. Saw three grizzlies on the upper slopes- cutworm moth season. Tetons look surprisingly close from all the way across the ecosystem.

Franc's Peak Ascent  Sucess!

From my tentsite at roughly 3100m in Meadow Creek Basin I climbed to the broad summit ridge/plateau and followed it north to the 4009 m summit of Franc's Pk in 3 hours in 11 minutes. The weather improved throughtout the day. I was completely alone all day, although the previous day three people and their dog had visited the summit.

Meadow Creek Trail

My Dad and I made our attempt to summit this in August 2005 and ended up turning back about a mile or so from the summit as we ran out of time. Wanted to get back to the truck before dark to avoid confronting a grizzly in the dark. Fantastic views on this broad massif that was dusted in places with fresh snow.
