| I climbed Ragged Peak over the long, flat west ridge, departing the Young Lakes trail just at the base of the ridge. I found the west ridge scrambling enjoyable, perhaps more interesting than the sand hike below it. After descending to the saddle above Young Lakes, almost as an afterthought, I ascended the north ridge of neighboring peak (11255?). This was one of the most spectacular stretches of sustained, exposed, class 3 ridge climbing I have ever seen. You can stay on the very apex of the ridge for the entire route with only a couple modest class 4-5 problems. If you're going to hike in for Ragged, don't miss this superior ridge scramble. |
