| This hike is almost exclusively over loose tallus of varying sizes all the way from the saddle to the summit. Good footing is a matter of finding a solid rock and using to to get to another. Hiking Pole(s) are a must on this hike - not so much for the slope, but for stability over the loose rocks.
In July of 2005 there were several patches of rather deep snow along the route to the summit. Once achieved, the view from the summit is spectacular. To the north you can see Mt. Moriah off in the distance. To the west, other north-south ranges of this portion of the Great Basin can be seen. Of course, to the south, Wheeler Peak predominates along with Jeff Davis Peak and a splendid view of Stella Lake. |
