| Two people from the "Random Hikers" group and myself went up the Signal Ridge Trail on a beautiful day. Will is from Texas and is just getting into climbing. It was his first 4000 footer. He had on brand new hiking boots that were not broken in and ended up with gigantic blisters on his heels. Despite this, he kept pace with Kristin and myself. We had great views from the tower and could see everything except the top of Washington (covered in clouds, as usual). The climb is typical White Mountain's. You can't see s--- for most of it, except trees. I think I'd enjoy Carrigan more in the fall where you could start to get some views at the lower elevations. But, hey, I prefer winter hiking anyway. | ||

| Climbed via the Signal Ridge Trail from the Saywer River Road. Plenty of wildflowers along the trails. The ascent up Signal Ridge was the best part of the hike offering great views of the of Sandwhich Range to the South and of the Presidentials and the Dry River Wilderness to the East. Carrigain definately has a remote and isolated feeling to it. | ||

| Originally hiked this bad boy back on July 1, 1997 as part of my 115er quest. Re-hiked it November 12, 2007 with New Jersey's finest Summit Post member, TLP, who has been working dilligently on the Northeast 4K peaks the last few summers. Outstanding day with temps. in the teens to 20s. Snow and ice above 3,000 feet but nothing too heavy. Barebooted the whole way. | ||

| It was awhile ago. I do remember we bumped into a large smelly animal rustling in the underbrush. Scared the you-know-what out of us. We're guessing it was a bear or moose or something. There were thousands of flies buzzing around. Who knows! | ||

| It was bug city for the majority of the trail until we started gaining elevation and left the streams and wet spots behind us. Fairly hot temps with very stagnant air. The only breeze we caught all day was on the observation deck. Hazy, but good views for 360 degrees. Could see the Cog and towers on Washington. We took a drip in the brook on the way down. There is one spot where it must have been 4.5 to 5 feet deep. I'd recommend holding out to swim there and not in the shallow bits before and after it. Very refreshing water made the trip that much more worth it. Good trip and nice peak. We'll likely want to do this one again in cooler weather. | ||

| Nice easy hike, especially coming straight from the Sierra :-) Good to be back home, and only 2 more 4000 fters to go. Met a woman on her way back down, having just completed the list. Amazingly clear views, perhaps the most mtns I've ever seen in the Whites. | ||

| Got a late start, so abandoned my idea of completing the loop over desolation trail and carrigain notch trail. Spent only a minute or two on the summit, and still had to do much of the descent by lamplight. Next time, I'll stay up top to watch the sunset! Fairly warm day, no wind except on summit. Fantastic bright sunshine, but my camera batteries froze repeatedly. Clouds rolled in after sunset but fortunately it didn't snow. Saw two people all day, then four campers heading up Sawyer River Road after dark. | ||
