colinpencea little problem...  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 9, 2007

One of our group had a problem and ended up getting injured, so our day finished a little more negative than it began, but it was still a fun day(see mtnhiker13's report from that day).

Date Climbed: May 25, 2009

We were mostly able to avoid the snow today or just suffer through short bouts of postholing, though right around timber line / willow death line we needed our snow shoes for a few minutes to get past deep drifts. Elk were all over the place on this mountain, and we saw a small herd, themselves postholing, through the snowfields. Cloudy day, so the views were limited but the views we enjoyed were dramatic thanks to the cloud cover. Hiking partner: Deb.

Date Climbed: May 3, 2009

Contoured above the mines and took a loose slope up to the summit ridge, almost deposited me right on the summit. Very windy day. Descended more of the west ridge route to avoid the loose rock from my ascent.

For some reason the appeal of this peak was that it was only 6 feet above the magic 13,000 foot status. Lots of mining activity and it seemed that I had the whole mountain to myself. Most of the hike for me was cross country because I had no beta on the route.

GahugafugaW Ridge Ski Descent  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 13, 2008

Following a ski descent of Mt Evans B, I made a creative skin of the W Ridge and SW face, with one 100ft bootpack just below the summit plateau. From there, creative patch-hopping allowed me to skin to just short of the summit. The ski back down required me to carry my skis twice, but actually yielded a few good turns dropping off the summit plateau.

Date Climbed: Jun 9, 2007

Great get in shape hike. We had an interesting experience on this mountain. One of our hikers who has been recovering from a bike crash - ended up breaking a bone in his ankle on some snow we went down on the descent. Luckily we ran into some graduate students who had a cart for their peat moss and we were able to wheel him down the rest of the mountain in the cart. What an adventure!! The first injury of any significance we have had in the mountains.

Quite a long hike due to the private property skirting I attempted. Snow conditions were funky, and the wind was brutal up high, but I still had a great time.

Good trip with Brad who was nice enough not to bitch about a very poor route of my choosing. I think we managed to hit every pocket of hip deep faceted snow in South Mosquito Creek.

Nice winter ascent with Colonelpyat. NO WIND and a mostly sunny day. Great views and an enjoyable hike. Only negative: WILLOWS and post-holing w/ snowshoes on.
