| We took Right Fork Maple Canyon. Contrary to what the Uinta NF ranger told me earlier in the week, the Maple Canyon road was NOT closed at the water tank; we were able to drive all the way up the canyon and park past the camp ground.
There was snow on most of the upper half of the trail, but it was a couple weeks old, so it was hard and we didn't need any snow shoes. I brought crampons and an ax because I didn't know what the snow conditions would be like, but it turns out that neither was necessary.
Maple Canyon Lake was totally frozen over with about four inches of ice.
10 miles round trip, 4600 feet of elevation gain, 4:35 to the summit, 3:00 back down. |
