syncSnowshoe ascent  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jan 31, 2009

Quite steep hike up through the snow only to meet ferocious winds at the saddle. Beautiful view of Wild Basin from the summit. I couldn't stand the wind for long, so quickly headed back.

I was trying to reach higher ground while looking for St. Vrain and realized I had bagged two peaks after I got home.

Had to lug myself up this after St. Vrain. It was too present not to climb it at the time. Nothing too strenuous after a shared approach with St. Vrain. Felt strenuous after a good long day hanging out above treeline. Not a cloud in the sky, so no hurries, even in midafternoon.

It snowed about a foot during the last week, and another 12 inches is forecast for tomorrow, so I figured today was a good day to hit Meadow. About half way up I hit snow about 6 inches deep. And the wind was howling. Had planned on doing St. Vrain as well, but the wind and the approaching cold front made me change my mind. Nice view of Longs and the Wild Basin from the summit of Meadow.

Date Climbed: Feb 4, 2007

Skied to saddle from ski road and hiked summit. WINDY- maybe 70-80mph. Took a couple tumbles and included some crawling. Have a funny video clip of myself with cheeks flapping in the summit wind. Planned on St Vrain too, but... great day for skiing below treeline though.

This small mountain is worth the short walk to the top. It's also a great early season warm-up climb. I hadn't seen anyone for hours and was heading to Meadow's summit from the St. Vrain saddle. As I neared the summit a lone coyote gave out a few howls. What a great day!

rkymtnRoute Climbed: South Slopes via St. Vrain TH Date Climbed: December 30, 2005  Sucess!

It was a very windy day. Haliku and I hunched over our ice axes and crawled during the final push to the summit. We stayed just long enough to catch a quick glimpse of Meeker and Longs. We then made our retreat and put the thought of hitting St. Vrain to rest for the day.

HalikuRoute Climbed: St. Vrain TH Date Climbed: 30 December 2005

We (rkymtn) started before sunrise. The winds picked up at sunrise and increased in strength. By the time we reached above treeline we could hardly stand. Wind gusts were so strong on the summit that we crawled to the top. I've never climbed in wind where I couldn't at least walk. Snowshoes were a required item today. We passed on trying for St. Vrain Mtn and the UN--another day.

A very nice winter hike. I'll be back for Saint Vrain Mountain... I was up on Meadow very late in the day (I would have liked to have stayed for the sunset but chickened out) and there was nary a breeze. No one else around either.

Great views of the southern face of the Longs Peak massif and Wild Basin. But overall I think the views are better from St Vrain so I'd recommend doing them both!
