| 5/25/09 - It had been snowing and raining off and on for several days in the San Juans. We climbed Dolores' steep south slopes in heavy fog - lots of talus and scree, but also a nice little couloir. Wind picked up near summit, lots of graupel. Got buzzed on the summit as we were unpacked, taking a break - very scary! Took cover about 100 feet down before the bravest in the group went back up to retreive our gear. Needless to say, the other two peaks we had planned for the day were out of the question.
10/24/09 - Back again with a friend, no buzzing this time! |
