After I went to Carter Dome I headed over to South Carter. It was a nice end to the day. Then on October 8th of 2008 I went to Middle Carter and was treated to some great fall views of the Presidential Range.

Southern turnaround on our trip. Hiked up to the Imp Campsite stayed the night and kept going south to Middle Carter. Back up and down Stony Brook trail. Note: Imp Cutoff DOES NOT exist even though it is listed on most maps and I could not find any information about it being "decommissioned".

Climbed with Moriah, North Carter and Lethe via the Carter-Moriah Trail from Pinkham Notch. A good climb to do near the end of the summer hiking season. Great views of the Presidential Range from Middle Carter on this crystal clear day. Not much to see from South Carter.

Part of our quest for Dome, South, and Middle. Several blow downs, but none too horrible. Several long stretches of snow from South to Middle. Did not look like anyone had been from South to Middle in a long time. Good trip overall (14.2 miles total).

WickedRuggedNorth to South from Moriah Trailhead  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 10, 2008

Part of an attempt of the whole ridge from the northern trailhead, climbed Moriah, then headed up North Carter, hit Middle and South, then bailed down towards the 19 mile brook trail. Intended to get Carter Dome, Wildcat A and D as well, but the going was far tougher than expected and we didn't bring snowshoes. Still a great hike, awesome views between North and Middle Carter.

Out and back from Zeta Pass

Very windy, had to break trail through drifts several feet deep in a couple places, on our way back they'd already formed again

Moderately difficult section up from Carter Notch had stunning views of the lakes. Gonna have to go back and see it from the Wildcat side.

My first 'modern' backpacking trip! From the log: After a brief lunch stop at Imp Shelter, we ascended North Carter, an extremely steep, hot ascent with marginal views at the summit. The trail continued more or less level for a mile or two over Middle and South Carter mountains through scrubby growth and large rocks, not quite high enough to be alpine, but too high to provide decent shade. Unused to backpacking (it had been several years for me), we finally dropped into Zeta Pass between the Carter's and Carter Dome and spent the night among the pines.

Spectacular winter hike with the finest weather and a great crew from Views from the Top (www.viewsfromthetop.com). Temps from 15-25, almost no wind, crampons all day. Great visibility.
