I opted not to temporarily abandon my 2 dogs to tag the highpoint. The ease of this hike was a pleasure on a clear day with many snow patches and several inches of snow cover near the peaks. This is a good one for hitting before or after other peaks in the area the same day. It would also be good with the family, for a rest day, or to just enjoy the views, scrambles and desert plants.

Greg DNorth Peak  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Dec 29, 2008

Scrambled up the North Peak but had to turn around when my daughter ran her leg into a cactus! Loved the little scrambling I did do and can't wait to get back to finish the other two summits off.

Tom Scott & I visited on our way out to Castle (Dove). Walked out in about 6" to 8" of snow. Did the north summit first, then shuffled through deeper snow over to the middle and south summits. Quite the experience to be surrounded by all the joshua trees covered in snow!

RedwicOne Word: HOT!!!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 12, 2006

A friend and I were driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, the day prior to hiking with an additional friend up Charleston Peak (Nevada), when we decided to do some hiking in the Mojave National Preserve while en route. Teutonia Peak presented a wonderful opportunity to see the desert in all its glory. The walk through the desert had its rewards, as did the scramble near the summit. Many beautiful desert wildflowers, but it was HOT during our hike. We saw a few desert lizards, but at least there were no encounters with rattlesnakes while we were there. This area was my first encounter with Joshua Trees, which I think are very cool.

MoapaPkRe: a favorite little hike

The summit log -- which was in bad shape when I saw it -- is on the exact point given for elevation on the USGS 24k topo. It isn't approached by the main trail, and involves some class 3/4 for the last 100 or so vertical feet.

Very rewarding walk with some scrambling. This area has the greatest forest of Joshua trees I've ever seen -- nowhere else comes close. Cima Dome is also a must-see.

So I walked up Teutonia for the heck of it. Fun scrambling at the top.

Matthew HollimanSouth/Central summits  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Feb 25, 2007

Climbed the south summit by mistake (class 2 from the south), and descended to the south-central notch. Rick and I then scrambled up an easy but slightly awkward class 3 chimney on the south side of the central summit (the highpoint).

Probably the shortest hike I've ever done to a peak, but it was worthwhile... pretty area, and an interesting summit block.

I climbed this one with Rex Hardy, Les & Kirk Rekve, Steve & Tyrel Stembridge, Ed & Cody Seastrunk, and Adam Thomas. We all got to the central summit block summit cairn with the summit register in the tin can. Just prior to that I had climbed up the north summit, then the south summit with Adam (which has a cairn, but no register). While the others spent 20 minutes coaxing Kirk over a gap while coming down the central summit, I topped out on the subsidiary crag mentioned by CP0915 on his very informative page for this peak.

MoapaPkDirect from east side  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jan 14, 2007

Went direct to east side of talus, then straight up the wash to notch described by CP. Never saw the cairn. Was at the summit in 35 minutes or less.

The position given by the USGS is the correct summit; I just did a gps GOTO on that point.

There was minor snow below the notch; else it was just cold (26F at noon on Kessler).

cp0915Route Climbed: to the 3 summits & a subsidiary crag next to n. summit Date Climbed: Jan 30, 2005  Sucess!

Good scrambling. Great potential for a variety of cool, though short, routes with easy access.
