| It just didn't feel right, so much effort put in describing one of my fav haunts of W Uintahs and nobody but the author logged it. So here we go.
Ran up Wall with Jasmine and her brother Max, of course not using any described routes. I wouldn't take my Subaru up Upper Setting rd beyond the 2nd "autos not recommended" sign, so we parked right there, walked the rim of the cliffs East across Coop Ck, and took an old logging road North along the spine of the hill separating Coop and Shingle creeks. Then for a while we followed lower Setting trail, but ascended the NW ridge (talus fields and a bit of bushwhack thru krummholz, with a drop into an interesting trough with fissures at 10,700), and back through the open woods og the gentle SW ridge. The summit USDA FS BM is a bit ENE of the top, at a point where Big Elk divide lakes come into sight.
Lucious huckleberries, raspberries, and overripe currants, all already dropping their leaves - red huckleberry bushes by the streams especially beautiful. It was windy but so serene - love that feeling of the snow waiting just over the horizon. Will be back after it covers the ground. |
