ScottyPWindy Day  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 28, 2009

Had to work off some turkey! Blowing 30-40 at the top. I placed a new summit register in the rocks at the top. Look for an old ammo box. Scott

ScottyPTurkey Day  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 25, 2008

Awoke to a very foggy and cold T-Day. Decided that I would wake up the family for a little hike up Hood. After dragging my 10 & 13 yr old daughters out of the house we were off. They did well only taking 90 minutes to the top. We were rewarded with sunshine on the summit looking down on a very foggy Bay Area. HAd a snack and then went home to the turkey!

Date Climbed: Nov 1, 2008

Great training hike with a weighted pack. 65 minutes from the trailhead. Orizaba next week! A great alternative is to start on the Pythian side and go, over and down to the godspeed trail. Have lunch and then back! I met a guy doing it with 75#s in his pack to gear up fror a Denali trip. Scott

Just one of those 80+degrees days in Oct. The views are a little better from Gunsight.

Hiked this with the wife, a rare occasion. Sadly, smoke completely obliterated the views in all directions. Trip Report

Dayhiked from the south. Jogged back from the summit. There is a register, but someone left the lid off and everything was wet inside.

Date Climbed: Nov 11, 2006

After a failed dayhike attempt of State Peak in Kings Canyon on Fri, rain on Sat interrupted my plans. Decided to return to the Bay Area, and ticked this one off my list after the SP page piqued my curiosity. Few views, and not much more than a leg stretcher for a bit of exercise.

nikolaino view?

The trail is a good fun hike, great in the wintertime to keep your legs moving. However, there is no view from the top. At the gunsight rocks I would rate the view 3/10.

Matt WorsterRoute Climbed: Natkempper Goodspeed trail Date Climbed: 29 January 2006  Sucess!

A little muddy over the low going, and washed out trail at the stream crossing made it intersting. We ended up with a good day, a leisurely 3 hours up and less than 2 back. Little to see at the summit unless you're over 5'6". Make sure you check out Gunsight for the view over the valley.

Alpine EricRoute Climbed: Sugarloaf Ridge Park / Hood Mountain Park trail Date Climbed: May 30, 2005  Sucess!
A good training hike. A gravelly rocky trail is good practice but watch your foot placement and your ankles. Not too much poision oak for a coastal summit (except at the parking lot), we only found 1 tick and, it's about 50% exposed to full sun. Awesome Manzanita trees near the summit. The summit is a small unimpressive meadow. There is a trail there with a sign saying "summit trail", thankfully someone has scratched "All Downhill" on this sign but it's still confusing. When you hit the meadow you are on top. For a real summit experience you have to hike back about 1/4 mile to Gunsight Rocks. Here there is a couple of big rock piles with a notch in the middle that resembels a gun sight. A great place to eat lunch and watch the hawks, we counted at least 15.

My second time on this hike, from Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. Mostly good trail, but some crumbly steep sections, which are a little dicy coming down. Views from the summit itself aren't that great, but from Gunsight Rock are spectacular!

1000PksRoute Climbed: Nattkemper Goodspeed Trail Date Climbed: February 2, 2005  Sucess!

97 minutes to the top, for my 4X. Trail was O.K., with a bit of mud at the stream crossing. It is rocky, due to probable erosion, in stretches. Saw only two other hikers this Wednesday. The State Park ranger was very helpful. Please ask before using the $6 fee pay envelope, since there is no fee required to use the Hood Mountain/Nattkemper Goodspeed Trail, from the south.
