After frying on Newman peak earlier in the day,
the family drove up this one in the afternoon.

In 2005 I enjoyed a more energetic afternoon with
Madera Peak, 6660+ 20, Signal Peak plus Pinal.

goat14erSnow hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Feb 2, 2008

Pretty long and tiring day hiking from the desert near Globe, up the steep first pitch, and into the snow. Probably nearly a foot up near the top. We had in-step crampons and Yak-Trax. Started on Trail 192, took Ridgeline Trail and intersected the Sixshooter trail, which we took to the near the summit. Views were incredible off the top, and standing in an aspen grove while looking at Phoenix was ridiculous.

Combined this with nearby Signal Peak to make it a worthwhile, albeit short, peak ascent pair. Great views obscured by typical high-prominence peak antenna installations present on the summit.

Cheated my way to the top. The summit appears to be an 8 foot boulder behind a building so I partly redeemed my lazy peakbagger ways with a six second scramble.

surgentCamp and short hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 22, 2006

We camped up at the highest CG near the cabins. I hiked to the top the next morning (1 mile r/t), then drove back with my wife a few moments later. She saw a bear during the early a.m. Getting too hot for a long hike from below.

AlphaZeusRoute Climbed: Sixshooter Trail Date Climbed: February and March  Sucess!
I hiked this twice, once in late February and then on Easter 2005. Pinal Peak is near the town of Globe, Arizona, about 2 hours east of Phoenix. I took the Sixshooter Trail, which started in the desert chaparral, and climbs into a desert sky island. When I hiked it in February there was a lot of snow just above where the pine trees started to grove, and on easter there was snow in the shady forest area near the top. The peak's view is not that great, but the hike up to the top really is. There is also an Aspen grove near the top, probably the closest grove of Aspen to Phoenix. If you are sick of dry, deserty Phoenix I recommend this hike.

Perhaps the most dominating mountain in central Arizona.
