I had a camp at the spectacular Shadow Lake. It was late September and there were very few folks around. The day I climbed up the peak, I did not see a soul. I went up to Texas Pass, and then first scrambled up Camel's Hump. The ridge from there is a fun scramble, with some fun routefinding. The peak itself was a sublime experience, the views are unbelievable. I hiked out from Shadow Lake the next day a very satisfied customer. What a great place to see and experience!

I climbed into the Cirque without a partner, so Lizard Head seemed like an obvious choice. I climbed Camel's Hump first, then traversed over, and made my own route down. Descending was fun, because routefinding was like trying to solve a maze.

I submitted a trip report 17 years and four months after the fact. While other routes are possible, I remember this route being more executable than it first appeared. Other enjoyable peaks in the nearby vicinity (to the northwest of Lizard Head) that I have climbed include Payson Peak, a.k.a. Buffalo Head (11,717); Mount Washakie (12,524) and Tower Peak (12,330).
