| A hike that is a good way to learn desert terrain. Had the company of 3 others on the summit. | ||

| Just one of the many peaks I climbed while a seasonal ranger in Death Valley. As a geologist by education, I love looking at the rocks and structural forms of desert peaks since the lack of vegetation exposes all. Stopped to do it on the trip to Beatty to buy food (cost too much at the stores in Death Valley). | ||

| Easy morning hike from the pavement. Some fun scrambling, too. Continued on the ridge north several miles to the area highpoint. Trip Report | ||

| I climbed this on the second day of a monthlong solo trip to Death Valley. I thoroughly enjoyed the hike--ridge-top traverses most of the way. Saw a group of chukars in the wash just before the route climbs out up onto the low ridges. | ||

| Corkscrew I took the ridge route up (close to eastern trace on Wingding's map, will post exact trace later), and the wash down. I much preferred the ridge route. 1h45m up, 1h15m down, but I jogged part of the way back. Passed some mystery hikers, apparently going to the peak; never saw them again, even after 40 min on top and lots of scanning the lower slopes. Their car was still at the "trailhead" when I came back This is a fairly fast drive from Vegas via us95; on a good day, takes just a bit over 2 hrs, and is about 140 miles. Thimble looks much nicer. | ||

| I solo scrambled up this one on New Year's Eve, 2005. Lots of fun trying to find my way up. There were less than a dozen names in the summit log for 2005. Snow/Rain in the Panamints, but just wind and brooding clouds overhead for me. Took me a few hours round trip. Good fun! | ||

| Made the summit in one hour and thirty-four minutes. I was the second person to summit of the winter season. Judging from the log at the summit, I would say less than 50 people a year climb this one. It's fun, especially if you are looking for solitude. | ||

| Drove a looong way from the Bay Area down to DV for a couple of days to check out the wildflowers. Corkscrew was buried amongst the clouds on Sat morning, so no views on this one. I enjoyed the hike up the wash, though, especially the scrambling past the two dry falls--fun! Later that day, I drove down to the south end of the park and tagged Sheephead Mountain--not on any list, but it was close to the road, looked cool, and had a name. It was also a pleasant stroll. The clouds had lifted by that point, so I was treated to nice views. | ||

| Plenty of good times on this famous little summit! There's a use trail part of the way, and I think it's better to go than the DPS recommended route. I'll be up for my 4X in a few seasons. No dirt road driving to bag this one! | ||

| Entered the clouds at about 5000 feet. From there, the snow and rain started and the views ended. 20 feet visibility on the summit. Windy and cold. The roundtrip was only 3 hours, so I was still anxious when I got back to the car - headed to Jubilee Mountain in southern DVNP. A short hike but very pleasant. The register hadn't seen an entry in like two years, if I remember correctly. | ||

| It was very windy near the top with light snow, you could see the sunny sandy landscape through the clouds. I enjoyed this wild desert peak. | ||

| Rainy and cloudy without views from the summit. I hear that the views from the summit can be great, so I'll have to go back and do this one again. | ||
