| Up the canyon/gulley/wash just north of Fountain, on the East side, from the State Park. Climbed the summit block on the North, and descended on the West, headed for Edgar. | |

| I really enjoyed this route. Near-constant scrambling that starts early and never really ends til you're well on the way to the car. The traverse over to Edgar was quite fun. Found a funky crack/cave-like feature that we had to downclimb into before continuing on to more obstacles. Cloudy, but a nice day out with good company. | |

| (Note the photo from the visitor center parking lot, identifying Fountain. The mountain is not always obvious or visible from below.) Climbed with cp and Rick. Imagine our surprise to find the traverse from Fountain to Edgar was just as hard as described by Burd and Holliman. C'mon you Cal State Parks slackers, you've had a full 3 weeks to clean this up and put in trail signs. Got to the top of Edgar ~12:15PM, looked at Mitchell and said, "not today". Enjoyed the DPS descent route off of Edgar, especially the catclaws. By wearing shorts, I avoided tearing expensive long pants. Really enjoyed sitting down in the car afterward. | |

| First peak of three we tagged in the Providence Mtns this day (Fountain, Edgar, and Mitchell). Fountain was by far the best of the three. Pleasant scrambling to follow the ridge up to the summit, then some surprisingly challenging route-finding and scrambling to get down off the peak and on to Edgar. | |
