ShinLVStd Route w/Branch Whitney  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Dec 27, 2008

Hiked with Branch Whitney (meetup hike) and other 7 hikers.
It was beautiful day and could see Spring Mt.area,Sheep Range & Telescope Peak. All those peaks are covered with snow.
Nice scramble hike. Its over 100 miles from Vegas, but worth it.

I loved this peak - very fun scramble. Will agree with cp0915, "alotta bang for your buck".

MoapaPkOh, I was there too.  Sucess!

Standard route up SW, with a few variations going down (i.e. got lost). Nice sharp peak, reminds me of Djibouti.

A very enjoyable scramble - short approach with some fun class 3. Climbed with Evan Rasmussen, then climbed Pyramid and Ryan later in the day. Trip Report

This turned out to be a lot of fun, even though the mileage on this hike seemed extremely short. Also, there are prairie falcons living on this mountain.
The photos from our hike up there are here, enjoy:

This is fun route to a superb peak. I think it's better than Moapa, which it is often compared to. With mostly solid rock and great vistas from the summit, everyone should enjoy climbing this mountain.

Great summit ridge. Spectacular views in every direction.

Didn't make it. It was so windy that I was crawling along the summit ridge to keep from getting blown off. Decided that discretion was warranted. I'll be back. What a huge chunk of limestone!!

Followed the chute up to a saddle, and then the crest of the summit ridge the rest of the way--an easy scramble, but with some enjoyable third class.

One of the few to have a 4X, I am so game to take other peak climbers up this peak for a traverse. We'll start up the class 3 gully to the south of the summit, and descend the standard route with the use trail. Nice desert rock for almost the only peak in the Death Valley area to require class 3 climbing!

Went straight up along the spine of the summit ridge, rather than look for the easier variation I'd read about. Made for a good time - the ridge is a treat. I left a wool cap up on that mountain somewhere...gotta look for it next time I'm there.

3/15/09 - returned with DB and Ellen & Aaron Johnson. A wonderful half-day out with good folks.
