A quick out-and-back, except that we didn't re-summit Culebra. Instead, we returned to the saddle, then traversed northwest to rejoin the NW ridge about half a mile from Culebra's summit. A nice thirteener.
"Economic Stimulus Refund Climb 2008"
Climbed the standard route via Culebra. Started out with the 14ers.com group but went on ahead to make sure I got my moneys worth ;-)
This was combined with my first climb of Culebra. In those days they didn't charge you extra for Red. Since I was up there I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to get a high 100.
Culebra Peak and Red Mountain Date Climbed: Sep 3, 2007
From Cielo Vista Ranch, paid the $150.00 and hiked the Northwest Ridge to Culebra Peak and continued on to Red Mountain. I was the only person to summit Red Mountain that day.
A VERY easy climb. Out of 6 people that were up on Culebra this day, I was the only one to climb Red Mountain. It was nice to have the mountain to myself. Clouded up a bit and eventually turned warmer (the morning was brutal!). I actually enjoyed Red Mountain more than Culebra!
I climbed Red after climbing Culebra with my wife and six other CMC members. I was bummed that we didn't see a black bear as it seems like almost everybody else who's sigend the Culebra and Red climber's logs saw bears. Oh well... We didn't even get views until the descent of Culebra.
Route Climbed: Cielo Vista Ranch -Traverse via Culebra Date Climbed: Jun 26, 2005
Glad I went. Got back to the trailhead and drove strait back 11 hours to Fort Worth got some sleep and was back at work the next morning. The things I do sometimes just to get in a climb!
Via Culebra Peaks South Ridge Date Climbed: Aug 20, 2005
This mountain is worth it - If your going for the top 100 peaks in Colorado. If not - don't waste your time. Nothing special about this one except that I spotted several black bears.
Route Climbed: Taylor Ranch Date Climbed: October 2, 2004
Climbed in October 2004 along with Culebra. The wind and weather were fairly nasty but I figured there was no way I was going home without Red too. The traverse over was quite cold and the climb back was painful but it was worth it.
