metal4lyfbest hike in the Boulder group!  Sucess!

hiked twice this summer. both times ascended north ridge and descended northeast ridge. the ridge is a fun escape from the steep, plodding trails to the rest of the Boulder summits

McCannsterN. Ridge>NE Ridge Loop  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Feb 7, 2009

Biked from Boulder to the trailhead. Ascended North Ridge, descended the NE ridge. The going really isn't bad at all once you are on top of the ridges, it's in obtaining the ridges where problems might arise. 1hr 40 mins up, 1 hr 30 mins down.

We went up the north ridge and descended the northeast ridge. Actually, I kind of preferred the north ridge on this one. While on top we listened to the playoffs while eating lunch. This was when John Elway engineered his famous game ending drive to defeat the Cleveland Browns.

Date Climbed: Jun 10, 2008

Hiked the Northeast Ridge Route from Rattlesnake Gulch Trailhead. Somehow I ended up on the North Ridge Route on the descent, even though I was trying to return the way that I came up. It can get very disorienting in the trees. I ended up descending via a long talus field just east of the North Ridge Route. Definitely the most challenging out of the four major Boulder Group peaks.

I tried this mountain earlier in the year and got to within 100-200 ft of the summit before I turned around - ouch. I wasn't expecting so much deep snow on the upper mountain and it ate up my time. I barely made it back to the car with daylight.

This time was much smoother and I made the summit without incident. Saw two others on the route! Awfully busy for an obscure mountain without a trail.

my recommendation - go down the way you climb up this mountain. We decided to do a loop and did some tedious bushwacking - nearly wore our group out. Nice little mountain otherwise.

Set off in late afternoon for a speedy scramble to the summit from open space access on the NE side of the mountain. Great scrambling. Deep snow up top. Nighttime descent was interesting.

miztflipNot Keiners, but  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 27, 2006

Mike and I had originally planned to climb Keiners on Long's this day, but with the forecast for snow we decided on something else. We set out to run/hike the major peaks along the Boulder skyline from Eldorado to Sanitas. Eldorado proved to be a challenge as we ascended the North Ridge and down the NE Ridge. The N Ridge was by far more enjoyable. We stopped just after noon with 18 miles and 7200 ft, due to the call of Falafel King. Great outing.

Great scramble up the north ridge from Rattlesnake Trail. Colorado Susan's impression is right on. This mountain was a test of patience and endurance for our group. We descended the NE ridge. Major bushwacking! GPS is a good idea in case you get diverted and can't see anything. Great climbing, horrific bushwacking for hours. Other Boulder summits have better views, but this mountain is certainly the most challenging of the bunch (for scrambling and route finding).

this is a pretty fun mtn. to climb. There's lots of scrambling on big, loose boulders high up which is cool. summit is pretty lame though; reminds me of east coast summits.

Worthwhile climb, but better views on other Boulder Range Mountains.

Climbed with Chris, Susan, and Peter. Not exactly what I was expecting for the first climb of my life but a good time in hindsight. Got a little "angry" on the descent, but mood quickly lifted once we hit the trail again. Don't hike this in tennis shoes!

Fun climb with Chris, Susan, and Caroline. Lots of good scrambling above the railroad tracks--also a good deal of bushwacking. Interesting discussion on the appropriate use of expletives.

Colorado SusanRoute Climbed: Northeast Ridge Date Climbed: March 12, 2005  Sucess!

This climb involved a lot of scrambling through forested area. That means that as I was pushing forward, the trees were snagging my pack, my face, and my arms trying to hold me back. This climb is more a test of patience than endurance.

ChrisRoute Climbed: Northeast Ridge, with a descent of North Ridge Date Climbed: March 12, 2005  Sucess!

Climbed this on a warm, windy, spring-like day with Peter (pksander), Susan, and Caroline. Fun route consisting of Class 3 scrambling and bushwhacking. Pockets of deep snow up high.
