shknbkenice, short scramble  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 13, 2009

This is a fine little scramble if you don't have much time. It capped off a fine day in Zion. We took the 5.6 variation mentioned in cp's book and were happy to have a rope for the crux crack climb. Awesome views of neighboring peaks.

jamesmhQuick scramble for great views  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 13, 2009

After a long drive from the north (escaping the bad weather), I managed to find CP et al. for a quick run Progeny before darkness set in. It was dessert for the others after having bagged 3-4 peaks already that day. Great views for being as accessible as it is.

11/29/08 - SW slopes, easy and fun scramble. Squeezed this one in after Lady Mountain & "South Ariel Peak". A fun, easy scramble with easy routefinding. Piece of cake compared to "South Ariel Peak".

11/13/09 - Returned less than a year later, this time took the more direct line. Welcomed a rope for one short section. Great views and great times with Kevin, CP & James.

After doing the bottom up to Subway earlier in the day, this short ascent made for a fine end to a great day in Zion. Views are well worth the effort.

By hiking completely around the base by, in part, using Clear Creek you can make a nice loop hike. Short for time, the round trip to Progeny can be knocked out in two hours or less.

SawtoothSeanBighorn and Tarantula  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 3, 2008

Did this as an after dinner scramble and found it highly enjoyable. I followed the "non-direct from the SW route" and encountered only Class 3 scrambling over slickrock, ledges, and gullys. On the way up I found a cool tarantula and on the way down I encountered a group of Bighorn Sheep.

SbrandeFirst Zion Scramble  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 15, 2008

Many thanks for the great beta on this scramble. My 11 year old son wanted to go to Zion and do more scrambles than long hikes. This met his requirements perfectly. Stepping out of the car I re-remembered how complex the topograghy of Zion is. He immediately got out of the car and started climbing up to the 'nipples' and I lost all sight of the suggested route, but had a fun time. From the nipples we went East toward the South summit ridge and reached the great views on the top. Smiles all around. Did not see the arch on the suggested route as we downclimbed but still a great way to start our Zion trip.

Know this one well. It was named because Joe Braun wanted to name the the arch at the bottom progeny since it looks similar to the arch on Bridge Mountain. My hiking partner Bo ran into an old timer that said the arch already had a name - Two Pines Arch. We broke the news to Joe, but called the peak Progeny Peak.

This is a good half day climb. I went up the wash to the base of the cliffs and then went up a gully. Many of the slabs were wet because it had rained the day before. Small cascades of water made the climb even more scenic. The view from the summit was more extensive than I had expected. I could see many of the peaks in the north all the way to Mount Kinesava in the southern end of the park.

Matthew HollimanRoute Climbed: A couple of ways from the SW Date Climbed: Nov 25, 2005  Sucess!

Squeezed this in early in the morning, before heading out to what was to be Mt. Kinesava (a plan that changed to Lady Mtn at the last minute).

I wish I could tell you exactly how I climbed this peak, but I'm not sure... I went up a gully that led north to the west ridge, and followed that to the summit. Surprisingly good summit views--although the peak looks insignificant from the highway, it really is worth checking out. I came down the west ridge, and after a great deal of head scratching and general puzzlement, eventually descended a rib that led me to a point perhaps 1/2 - 1 mile east of my car. I thought I left the ridge where I gained it, but I guess not...

Suffice it to say that route-finding in Zion can be surprisingly difficult, at least for a newbie there. I was over an hour late for a rendezvous with cp0915! Sorry...

cp0915Route Climbed: direct ascent & non-direct descent with canyon variation Date Climbed: March 26, 2005  Sucess!

A lot more ice and snow than I'd expected. The summit views are better than I've ever seen in Zion. This mountain inspired me to get into the backcountry of Zion and tackle those mountains! Next trip in the works...
