CalGoatRoad Hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 17, 2009

Went up the road with no issues. Walked around the radio stuff and took some photos, but no one was around so I don't know if they still hassle hikers up there. A couple of cars passed me on the "closed" part of the road but again, no problems. The views are decent at the top, but like others have said, the antenna arrays block any kind of panorama.

ericwillhiteRoad hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 22, 2008

Hadn't checked website so had no info on this climb. Got to first gate, decided to drive on. Saw the second gate and signs and worried about leaving my car there with locals driving by...went back to first gate and parked. After 20 minutes debate, started walking up. Since I was carring both my kids (60lbs)on me, I figured locals would be nice...they were.

Jared RaderRoute climbed: Uvas Canyon>Loma Prieta & Highland Road> Loma Prieta  Sucess!
I have climbed Loma Prieta Twice. The climb up Uvas Canyon I can remember as being strenuous, but once you hit Summit Rd the climb is smooth sailing ahead. The people who live in this area are much friendlier than the people around Mt. Umunhum, and I have never had problems from locals while hiking around "private" roads in the area. I have been lucky enough to summit via the service roads on days when no one is around. Overall, there's a lot of antennas at the top and the good views are on the north side.

This was a much better route than the last time, no hassles from land owners. Trip Report

OJ LoennekerClimbed several times  Sucess!

I used to live right off summit road for about four years. During that time I have tooled around the area. I have been to the summit several times, and been chased off several other times by my "neighbors" who do not like people up there...

Nice hike up the canyon, then a little road hiking for variety :-)

Dennis PoulinRoute Climbed: Drive Up Date Climbed: 11/4/5  Sucess!

The gates were open and I drove to the summit. This was a mistake. An employee was in one of the communication towers and he let me know that I was trespassing and they usually call the Sheriff to have him deal with trespassers. He looked like he was FBI or CIA or just an SOB. Foggy on top and no view to be had.

AbraxasRoute Climbed: From Uvas Canyon, then to Summit Road Date Climbed: July 24, 2004  Sucess!
This was a fairly easy hike--all the work is done when hiking from Uvas County Park up to Summit Road. From Summit Road, it is more or less a stroll.

Views from the top are good, but you never get a grand sweeping view because there are towers everywhere. Also took a little work to find a route between all the fences to get near the highest point on the mountain. There was a surprising sea breeze coming up from the (visible) ocean on the hot July day while coming up Summit Road.

We hit Nibbs Knob on the way back down to the Uvas parking lot. It's certainly easier on the way down than it is on the way up.

Al PineRoute Climbed: walked from road Date Climbed: July 17, 2003

Did not go to the top of Loma Prieta, but walked around nearby Crystal Peak and Mt. Chual. Very nice views of SF Bay area and Monterey Bay area.

QuailBSRoute Climbed: By car on road, then a short walk to summit Date Climbed: April 2005 (unsure of exact date)  Sucess!

Was able to go with my father because he was doing CDF work. Would be a great veiw if it wasn't for the fog.

Rad ThibidauoxxDate Climbed: June 20, 2005  Sucess!

I hiked it with David Alexander who I also climbed Mt Umunhum with. It was a pretty easy hike and a lot less intense than Umunhum. The whole hike took us a little over an hour.

McCannsterRoute Climbed: East Slope Date Climbed: February 20, 2005

Discovered the East Slope Trail that led to the summit. It was really windy up there! It was also raining. couldn't see much at the top that time except a bunch of antennae. Been up 4X since then, mainly when it snows.

Bob BurdRoute Climbed: From Sierra Azul / Mt. Umunhum Date Climbed: 199?  Sucess!

From Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, one can find the paved road leading to Mt. Umunhum, signed Private Property and gated. I hiked up this road and then along the summit ridge to Loma Prieta. On the way back I was warned by one land owner, then barred from recrossing the property of another. I spent several hours detouring around his property on the south side of the ridge via dirt roads and bushwhacking (ugh!). Beware, this route is entirely on private property as far as I could tell. The views are really grand, but not worth the hassle.

rgreeneRoute Climbed: Loma Prieta Road Date Climbed: 26 March 2005  Sucess!

Working on some P2k peaks. Was fun, tried a bunch of approaches direct off Summit Road (which were a big waste of time), finally gave up and did it the easy way.
