| Having just moved to the Tri-Cities I decided a road trip was in order to familiarize myself with the state a bit. I wanted to see the north cascades and the Grand Coulee so the top of Steamboat Rock seemed like a good vantage point. Storms obscured most views of the cascades but the Grand Coulee was awesome. Drove home via the Columbia River; Wenatchee sure seems like a nice place. Fun trip, I can see there will be lots to do here in WA. | |

| this is one of the nicest parks in the whole state. a very special place. unlike any other summit i can remember! | |

| A fun walk up to both sides of this rock. Surprised to see a great field full of deer at the top. Quite the view of the surrounding waterways...beautiful! | |

| We had stopped in at the RV park and saw this rock. We didn't even know it had a trail to the top till we got up close. We were just going to scramble to the top. Once on top we noticed a large herd of deer. Quick little hike although you can spend most of a day on top exploring the perimeter. | |

| Members of Spokane's Boy Scout Troop 171 scaled Steamboat Rock (and the nearby Northrup Canyon area) on a beautiful, sunny Saturday. When I climbed to the summit in 20 minutes flat at 5 PM, the wind was calm and Banks Lake was like mirror glass. I saw a herd of ~50 mule deer on the north end of the summit plateau, and they kept their distance. I hiked around the eastern rim, and marveled at the views of the Grand Coulee. Don't get too close to the edge -- it's a LONG way down to the rocks below! The descent is tricky 1/2 way down, since there are loose rocks on the steep trail. Trekking poles will help you keep from spraining your ankles. | |

| A great diversion from the water-centered activities of Banks Lake, and super views of the entire area. Good for hikers of all ages, but heed the precautions (in red) of the original page writer. Each time, I took newbies up the rock, the last time being a group of 6 Vietnamese immigrants, to show them some of the natural beauty of their new home in Washington State. Judging by their reaction, more generations of Vietnamese-Americans will be visiting in the future as word gets around! | |
