surgentUnheralded summit  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 5, 2009

Followed the north route, no difficulties at all. Four hours r/t, including stops and summit break. Stunning weather: near-zero humidity, 150-mile views, cool, slight breeze. A great little half-day hike for a nice "little" peak. My trip report

Foxy Long Bottoms1.5 Hrs  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 7, 2009

1.5 hrs up the standard route. Neat views of the city and surrounding peaks from the top. Good route for a quick fix outside of the city.

ShinLVclimbed from South  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 14, 2008

Climbed from South (North end of Decatur). Took little over 5 hours to go up, because I had to check the GPS route all the way and Geocaching. I think I can make it in 4.5 hours next time. It was about 8.5 miles and more than 5,100 ft elevation gain for only one way up.
Fortunately, I met one guy at the peak and went down from North with him. (He gave me a ride back to my car)

LV HikerStandard Route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 3, 2008

My friend Bob and I climbed this little peak today. Took us a couple hours going up and about one and a half coming down.

Great weather out there today. There were a couple police choppers coming and going from the summit all day today. Perhaps they were doing some type of maintenance?

Date Climbed: Mar 8, 2007

I climbed this one from the north with my wife a friend and his two daughters. This was his first summit with his girls and they did great despite a windy summit. 5 and 7 years old, where do they get the energy? We took the service road past the parking area to shave a couple miles off for the girls. The rangers were out this weekend though and those four miles cost us $175. They've never ticketed us before, but at that cost they won't again either!

Date Climbed: Jan 10, 2006

a short hike but a very long drive, the only reward a great view of Vegas (I am not sure you want to get a good view of it, anyway..). A hike with deep snow makes it a little more interesting

Great Hike from the north. Great views of Las Vegas, Lake Mead, and surrounding area. Saw a B2 Bomber fly low over us 1/2 to the summit.

we started from the N side, and went down the canyons on the S. Most people rap'd; I just downclimbed.

The roads are in good shape leading out to Gass Peak. High clearance recommended, without high clearance your trailhead drive time will be substantially increased.

I climbed this one from the east with my brother Eric on New Year's Day, 1986. The LVMP Dept Radio repeater antennas on the summit were not fully installed but were under construction.

Climbed with my dad, Susan, Tyler, and Ron. Nice weather on this hike, not too hot. There was a trail up the ridge for most of the way. Great view of Las Vegas and all of the surrounding mountains.

Ranger217Route Climbed: North Date Climbed: September 6, 2005  Sucess!

Nice hike. 78 deg at 7 AM to 90 deg at 12 PM. Found it longer and slightly more challenging than it looked from the trailhead. Disappointed that that I did not see any Big Horn Sheep. Best part was being the only person in at least 50 sq miles. Fun watching the 60 mph dive-bombing swallows on the ridges. Some of the trail wasn't too clear. Best help was this website: http://www.birdandhike.com/Hike/DNWR/Gass_Peak/Gass_Peak.htm

Chilly at the onset of the hike, but warmed up nicely on the ascent. Nice views of the surrounding area.

I was the only one in the area when I reached the top on a very windy day. Great expansive views in all directions. It'd be a great experience to spend the night on top and have the best view of Las Vegas you could possibly have.

I recommend this one highly. A neat and fairly close hike overlooking all of Las Vegas.
