| My son and I started from the trailhead at 5:15 PM, summited at 7:10, started down at 7:15, back to the car at 8:30. No snow at all, and no mountain lion this time. Weather was dull overcast the whole time, so no photos were taken at the lookouts. A good conditioning hike, but really not very interesting. There are lots of mountains around 4K that are more interesting as hiking/scrambling objectives. | |

| Interesting hike. The first 1.5 miles were steep but for the most part easy with just a bit of snow. Once I reached the spot where there is a bit of class 2 the snow got quite a bit deeper, occasionally postholing up to my knees and usually up to my ankles. The Rockpile was quite snow filled, and was almost unrecognizable except for the very top. Then followed some snowshoe tracks for about half a mile up to around 3700 feet when I stopped to rest for a bit. While resting I saw a mountain lion about 300 feet in front of me. Fortunately it showed no interest in me. Being solo, I decided this was a good spot to turn around. Put on a good pace back, no halts until I crossed back over the class 2 section (adrenaline can work wonders). About 2 1/2 hours up, around 1:10 down. I will be back to get this summit later. | |

| Good conditioning hike. Nice view of hood from near the helispot. From the Great Pyramid, and with the high Cascades hidden by clouds and trees, this area looks a lot like the Adirondacks! | |

| Good hike with great views of Hood......if there are no clouds. Nice steep trail to rimrock view. Trail actually gets pretty rugged and very steep (at times) the last couple of miles to the Great Pyramid viewpoint. | |

| Hiked up in alternating sun, rain, sleet and hail on a Sunday morning. Would be some nice views on a clear day. Goofed around the Rockpile for a while. Ate lunch at the Great Pyramid and it miraculously cleared up a bit for me there. Hit the helispot on the way back (since you can only see the sign from the south I missed it on the hike in). Nice way to spend a Sunday. You do most of the work in the first hour of the hike and then cruise a ridge for another hour or so to the summit. | |
