| The ratings here are pretty soft--a 5.9 here is quite a bit easier than a 5.8 friction climb in Yosemite Valley. But it's still kind of fun to come out here and work on one's mossy slab technique. | |

| Rock Climbing the San Francisco Bay Area rates this a 5.8 or 5.10b slab route, depending on whether or not you aid on the tree for the first 10 feet (Rock Climber's Guide to Skyline Boulevard calls it 5.9). Well, Matthew and I aided on the tree ... a fun local winter climb to train for friction. Setting up a TR just requires a little class 4 but is otherwise pretty easy.
