TracyNorth Wilson only
Date Climbed: Dec 5, 2009

Climbed up to the top of North Wilson with Les Rekve and Steve Stembridge from the vicinity of Teakettle Pass near the end of the Nat. Park Svc. Road that goes from Kingman Wash up to the Fortification Hill trailhead and beyond. From car to car was about 4 hrs. and 45 mins. Found a "new" DPS register on top from March 2007. We were the first to sign it since it was signed by the person who placed it.

Got Honda to closure on jeep road, but it vehicle
was not all that happy. Rocky bushwack to top, but
bet this is easier than east side. Good to see Vegas folks
climbing this peak - it is off the radar of most AZ hikers.

We went up the standard route on the west side, came down a more interesting gully with dryfalls.

Years later, I crossed over to the peak to the north -- a very wild trip. That ridge is a lot rougher than you would infer from the topo map. The hike brought me through pools, marshes, and cottonwoods, quite unexpected on the west side of the ridge, during one of the driest winters in memory.

Tracyreconnaissance trip
Date Climbed: Nov 2, 2001

Bristol Ellington and I tried to hike to the top of Wilson Peak and back before noon (November 2, 2001) from the end of Horsethief Canyon Road. If we hadn't run out of time, I believe we would have made it all the way.

It started out as a fact finding trip in my 2-wheel drive Ford Club Wagon (full size van with good clearance) and we got to the end of the road in good time. We hiked as far as we could until I had to turn around because of an appointment I had back in Vegas.

We followed the drainage lines as shown on the topo map - first generally east and then generally south until we got to the saddle that is southwest of Peak 4510 and northeast of Peak 4154. We then hiked/scrambled up the ridge to about the 4440-foot elevation (shown as a circle contour on the topo map just southwest of Peak 4510). The rest of the hike/scramble appeared very doable - we just didn't have the time.

Nice hike, but I like the Missouri Springs route more. Slideshows are here: Wilson via Missouri Springs , Wilson via Ridge Route

Nice hike from the highway. Found an old car (from the 40's or 50's, I dunno) in a wash along the way. Some decent class 3-4 scrambling on the granitic upper south/southwest ridge. Nice views from the summit.
