| The day before, I had climbed Warner Peak, a fine peak to the west of Beatys Butte. Beaty was very prominent from Warner so I was looking forward to summiting it as well. I met Dennis at the highway 140 and Beaty Butte road about 9 pm where we ended up car camping for the night. The next morning we were up early as we needed to beat incoming weather and the roads were a concern.
No problem with the weather until we summitted and then we could see we needed to get a move on. From Beatys, we made the long drive to Sheepshead Mountain range to get the highpoint and then Blue Mtn, near McDirmid with the hopes of getting Pueblo mtn the next day. No luck as the weather turned foul and made a mess of the roads. Still, three far flung summits in one day was a good feeling. 330 miles of driving and over 200 miles of dirt / 4WD roads. |
