This peak is fun for all sorts of folks, providing a variety of routes from 3rd to 5th as indicated. We practiced climbing on some of the harder routes and did some rapelling. Rock is loose in many parts, but some of it is quite good. Plan to come back when there is more snow and climb the east face!

Date Climbed: Sep 19, 2009
Amazing peak. You really feel like you are on top of the world! Took an informal trail that from the west side of Long Lake along a creek, past a small unmarked lake, to an unmarked logging road that runs across the north side of Devil's Peak. Logging road led to a trail up the north chute. Came back down the west side to meet the marked logging road. Down required some slipping and sliding and bushwhacking through the manzanita. Overall an amazing hike!

fedakRidge Traverse from Devils to Snow  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 12, 2009

From the Cascade Lakes. Cross Country around the east side of Devils, backtracked to summit devils and then followed the ridge to Snow.

Rained for about a half hour between the two peaks.
Took the forest roads on the return trip.

Pics are here.

Mellow fun scramble with Kimberly, Pei, Cheryl, Bob, and Dave. The traverse along the ridge was especially pleasant.

1000PksRe: South Ridge / West Slopes

Bob, thanks for the feedback on that frontage road detail in my guide! Just an error hopefully quickly seen and not to get people too confused.

When writing this, I was told by R. J. that he left "seeds," details that if copied would appear to show plagiarism. This was done to me by the MLC SC, with slightly inaccurate details, from my guide, copied word for word, published with no credit to me, in their P&G Boulder newsletter. Back in the 1990's, though. Another red-handed example of the MLC SC crime, hate, and terror.

Most avid peak climbers can read maps, and infer slight errors, so I have no big problem with this. I do wonder how I did miss that, and even think that unauthorized modifications are done to my own website by the web host, or even hackers!

Date Climbed: Aug 17, 2007

This was a pretty cool mountain. It looks a lot taller at the base than it actually is. I was very happy to see a trail up the beginning part. The scrambling up was fairly easy but going down was annoying. David somehow thought down-climbing was fun.

After the summit, we:
-went to eat at the Summit Restauraunt, sat at the bar, and listened to people talk about smoking cigarrettes.
-took the dirt part of Soda Springs Road.
-rescued 13 runners from going the wrong way by putting them in the back of the pickup truck.
-made a quick stop at Duncan Peak and looked out the lookout.
-went to the Big Trees of Placer county (believe me those trees are big) and saw some Giant Sequioas.
-those trees really were big.
-drove about a billion miles per hour on the dirt road at the End of the World and almost hit a cow.
-couldn't find the End of the World.
-listened to Hot For Teacher on the way to Forest Hill.
-drove accross the tallest bridge in California.
-ate pizza!
-got gas.
-talked to some crazy guy that wanted to hitch-hike to "the dam" and tried to give us some "mo-town" so we would let him lay down in the back of the truck "like a log".
-listened to xerog radio.
-went home.

What a day.

Cascade Lakes to the North Chute then class 3 gully to the summit with iamthebest1122. Good scramble, nice views. Had lunch in Soda Springs then drove out Soda Springs Rd and saved 13 trail runners from sure death when they took a wrong turn. I had 10 people in the bed of the pickup and 3 in the back of the cab! Ben and I took them to Robinson Flat and they gave us $ 40! Not bad...continued to check out some other spots out above Foresthill. Long day!

randyfranklinSW Ridge via Cascade Lake  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 31, 2007

Good peak - I did this as a trail run from Cascades Lakes on Palisade Creek Trail - I overshot quite a bit of distance and didn't catch myself until the the switchbacks heading down toward the Royal Gorge. Came back and just chanced onto the old logging road. Got myself into a bit of bushwhacking - always a good time. I noticed people are saying that the northern part of the ridge is the summit but on the map the summit is clearly denoted as the south part of the ridge - I also located the USGS marker there. Am I way off on this? I might have to take another trip up there... :-)

Fun route with a few stiff moves to gain the summit via the ridge. Didn't find a register on top.

GoatherderRoute Climbed: Northern Chute Date Climbed: 7/30/05  Sucess!

First class 3 ascent. Eaten alive by Mosquitoes. Good training mountain. Fairly stable rock on the north. Spotted a Bear! I almost wussed out on a class 3-4 section. Don't go down the west side in the summer! The bush wacking is not much fun.

Ran over from our campsite near Cascade Lake as a training run with some friends. Fun summit, although I remember it being quite "buggy."

This is one of my favourite Tahoe area peaks, too. Easy, fun climbing, with some cool views.

This is a great peak! The views are awesome because the peak really stands alone. The climbing is fun and can be varied. When we did the hike, the road was still closed due tot snow at the ski lodge, adding 6 miles RT. Also hiked the trail (not maintained) along the south and east of the peak. 17 miles RT. Probably my favorite north Tahoe peak to date.
