| Climbed with Abraham via the Long Trail from Lincoln Gap. A great hike along the crest of the Monroe Skyline. Lots of mud. Reached the wooded summit a few hours after Abraham. Had some really nice views of the surrounding mountains from the ski area. | ||

| The morning fog never lifted completely. But it's still a nice hike. I was happy to see the sign at the summit, because there's a lot of up and down as you get closer to it. | ||

| Reached this forested summit twice. The first with my parents when we were day hiking the entire ridge from Lincoln Gap to App Gap. The second being along the Long Trail. It's hard to imagine that this mountain is the same exact height as Camel's Hump, which is just a two day hike to the north. | ||

| Well, I made it to the summit, that was the good part. Rained mosted of the hike. Only on the ridge walk out did the clouds lift enough to see into the valleys, and then they settled right back in. Completed last of VT's 4000 footers. | ||

| No views from this forested summit (i guess) found 6.3 miles from Lincoln Gap. Just a orange and black rod in the midst of a clearing in the woods. Nearby Cutts Peak 0.4 miles back on the trail has some pretty good views. 12.6 mile round trip for this one, but the hike includes Mt. Abraham 4006, Lincoln Peak 3975, Nancy Hanks Peak 3812, Cutts Peak 4022 and finally Mt. Ellen at 4083. Nice hike on the Monroe Skyline. | ||

| I hoped the weather man was right about the rain clearing up and in fact I did get about 20 minutes with the sun shining through but I was socked in most of the time and breathing clouds with a downpour finale passing over the top of Mt. Abraham on the way back down. Long hike and Mt. Ellen's top is not very impressive unless you continue past to the top of the lift line. Had to use GPS just to figure out when I crossed Cutts Peak since I was tracking the 4000' peaks. | ||

| When you get bit by a black fly, it injects an otherwise harmless neurotoxin that causes thoughts to come into a person's head, "Hike in June, hike in June." This assures the black flies of an annual food supply of hikers. I chose to hike Mt. Ellen and Mt. Abraham in June because I had a trip that was taking me that way anyhow. I kept a fast, steady pace and managed to avoid getting bit up real bad. This hike is a very nice ridegewalk with many vistas looking at the Sugarbush and Mt. Ellen ski areas, and Mt. Abraham has an alpine area that is above treeline. | ||

| After the preceding week of rain, the trail was pretty sloppy. Bugs were a bit annoying on top (black flies). Quiet day on the trail. Great views from this peak, but a little hazy to see all that could otherwise be seen. | ||
