| My wife and I hiked Albert Mountain as part of the Lookout Tower Challenge sponsored by the Carolina Mountain Club. The Tower was in good repair>the views were splendid and the hike was relatively strenuous>>HOWEVER, the swarms of bugs were absolutely miserable, especially at the summit. | |

| Part of a section hike from Dick's Creek Gap, GA to Wallace Gap, NC. Day three of this trip was the only day we had without rain, so we enjoyed great views from Albert. | |

| It was a perfect cool summer morning in the Southern Appalachians with beautiful cloud cover veiling the mountain trail with mist, making it an almost mystical experience. Started at Carter Gap around 7am and made it to the summit by 11am. The portion from Mooney Gap was especially fun-- so much so that I brought my nephew with me about a month later to show him the joys of hiking. I'm not so sure that my enthusiasm rubbed off on him though. | |

| This "trail" turned into quite the surprise. I still remember the badly eroded high angle gully on the south side that I had push and pull my way up. At the time I called it the hardest .3 miles of my life. | |

| After about 15 miles on the AT & coming from the summit of Standing Indian Mtn in one day ... the last section of trail to the summit of Albert is steep! Drink your powder Gatorate, eat your Powerbar, or put on your Mojo necklace ... 'cause you'll need it for the last section ... especially if your dragging a 40 lb. backpack. Your trekking poles won't help you here. GREAT views - well worth the effort. | |

| Part of 4 day solo section hike from Unicoi Gap to Wallace Gap. Cloudy and misty most of trip, especially day 3 with Standing Indian and Albert Mt socked in. Nice stretch of trail through the Southern Nantahala Wilderness. Climb up Albert on the AT was quite steep. | |

| Did this as part of a loop of the AT. Short steep sections near the top are rewarding. Great views from the Fire Tower. From here to the Carter Gap shelter is still a good way. Only one or two spots to get water from start to Carter Gap. | |

| Climbed as park of an AT hike. Ascended from GA to Deep Gap and followed the AT from there. Extremely cold (single digits) and windy on the summit. | |

| Hiked to Albert Moutain on a really nice, sunny late June day. The weather was even cool, with temperatures in the mid-60s. I did not have to deal with any of the notorious thunderstorms that are legendary along this part of the Appalachian Trail. The views were pretty good, if somewhat hazy, with limited visibility. Mainly from pollen and rising moisture, I think, but also from smog drifting in from either the Atlanta area or the Ohio Valley. | |
