kcoderreRoute Climbed: Grizzly Pass East Face Scramble  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 21, 2006

Had a really energetic day, started at 8:15 and was at Grizzly pass by 10:10 and on the summit at 11:05. Was alot of fun. Great views despite the haze, and the helicopter tour that flew over while I was enjoying the view. Would highly recommend it as a great short day scramble!

Another stormy day in 2005. Upon reaching the famous arch, I began to climb over it. I looked back, and a Dahl sheep and her lamb were attempting to follow me to the arch! Maybe they didn't see me at first? Nice views of the Kananaskis Lakes from this summit.

I'll never forget this ascent, not only for the interesting views of the window but especially for my encounter with a grizzly sow with two cubs. I had just reached a grove of trees where I finally got a good view of the window. As I brought my gaze downward, I spotted the grizzly standing up looking at me from the trees. Fortunately, she decided to retreat further into the trees. Her two cubs popped up shortly after, taking off after their mother after taking a quick peek at me. I backtracked around the trees and went up high onto rocks. Didn't see them again, even when I returned the same way later that day. As a finale, as I approached my vehicle on the return, a moose was grazing in a stand of trees across the creek.

Had clear sunny weather for the trip. Was expecting a long day with a lot of snow to trudge through but most of the snow was hard packed down already. Some snow remained on the really loose scree up to the summit so it made it easier to ascend and provide good brief glissading. The view was awesome and I would definately do it again. Thought about doing the traverse to Pocaterra as well but there was too much snow along the ridge.

Did this beautiful traverse in 2004 and it remains one of my favourites. Returned the same way through Tyrwhitt due to a thunderstorm/hail that made me decide to take the safest route back, was a total rush!

I did this traverse of two summits in 6 hours return, it is more of an 8-10 hr day according to the published notes. Great high alpine as is always the case at Highwood Pass. Of course doing this in September was a bonus to me because of the Larches. I recommend this one. Good look at the backside of Joffre. Cheers!
