| Ellen and I climbed this fabulous mountain from the Sharkstooth TH. I was disappointed that the old access road referred to in my Paul Pixler book had been shut down. This resulted in using the Mancos Trail, which is in bad repair. Bushwhacking is required no matter what route you may navigate to the mountain, so we skipped the trail on our return. The mountain was great fun. We had a bluebird day and we were the only ones on top, or on the mountain, until we ran into a local couple during our descent, who knew of SP and refer to it routinely, and so they reckognized me as well. Great summit, fabulous view, fun scrambling, but be in the mood for loose rock galore, because that's what the La Platas (and the San Juans) are all about. Get around that and you'll really enjoy this mountain! |
