nice hike on a perfect, quiet day. great views today--i'd never noticed before that from the peak you can see trails on ascutney, round top, okemo, magic, and stratton. only disappointment was seeing how trashed cooper lodge has become.

From the Inn At Long Trail (which now seems to be a misnomer). A little bit of hail and snow on the way up. The Killington Spur trail was very cool.

Climbed via the Bucklin Trail from Wheelerville Road. Tons of wildflowers in the valley down below. The trails were very muddy for most of the hike. Plenty of snow above 3500' to the summit. Not very many people out today.

Took the lift to the top and skied down. Nice an easy, noting that I was only 7.

patssox09Bucklin Trail - Off Trail - Eventually the Upper Catwalk Ski Trail  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 15, 2008

Took the Bucklin Trail up. Snow was deep but perfect for snowshoeing, didn't posthole at all. Lost the trail and the blue blazes a few hundred feet from the summit. Wandered around through the snow trying to find the higher ground. Eventually ended up at the Cooper Lodge, where I took a trail assuming it was the spur. Instead it took me right into the ski area, where I went up the Heavenly Traverse and then the highest section of the Catwalk ski trail to gain the summit ridge. Catwalk section was steep and icey, I definitely put my new ice axe to some good use there.

Trudged up from the Appalachian Trail junction. It was worth it.

Date Climbed: Jul 4, 2007

This was the last of the five Vermont 4000+ foot peaks that I summited. However, it was the most disappointing. Not much up there. The views weren't even that good on the day I climbed because of the haze. I also spent $6 on a cup of coffee and brownie at the skiing restaurant.

We were heading south to north, actually on the AT, and this was a slight side spur. That was a great day, with clouds drifting close at hand. We sure met some bizarre characters on the AT.

Seth MaciejowskiRoute Climbed: Juggernaut Trail Date Climbed: January 1999  Sucess!

We skied up the Juggernaut trail a bunch of years in a row. It's a nice trail to take the cross country skies up being not too steep. The summit block on killington is refreshingly absent of people since it is kind of hidden up and right of the top of the lift lines. The ski down is, naturally, amazing.

dobsonianRoute Climbed: Bucklin Trail->LT/AT->Peak Spur Date Climbed: September 20, 2005  Sucess!

Thought I might have to pass this up till my return trip to Burlington from NJ but the after some downpours in Albany and just outside Rutland I decided to check out the trail head and the showers seemed to have subsided. This was by far the quickest, easiest 4K' ascent in VT until the peak spur which gets somewhat vertical. Book time was 5 hours, I made it in 3:45 with about 5 minutes at the top in the clouds, barely able to see the TV and radio antennas in front of me. Managed to freak out an AT hiker in Cooper Shelter (the only other person I saw up there that day) when I was going to shoot a picture of the building and the door blew open to show him at a table right on the other side. Learned that my new trail runners are no match for wet rock and trashed a pair of Masters poles on the way down. At least I got all the 4000'+ done in VT this summer :-D
