DigglerAnother one bites the dust  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 19, 2009

Walking around an ugly manmade structure with singing electrical lines, radio wave symbols, & warnings of high voltage made me really question my attraction to the state highpoints... The great views of the Diablo range, Mt. Tam, Mt. Diablo, the South Bay, as well as a side trip to the Lick Observatory, though, restored my faith, & reminded me why. Building aside, it is a beautiful area, the drive pleasant (if it hadn't been for the 2 slow cars that refused to pull over, I would have stayed ahead of the better part of a 3-person GSX-R/YZF riders group- THAT would have been cool. Oh well...), & wonderful company made for a great day's outing.

Dean2nd one of the day  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 21, 2008

Did Vaca earlier, then this one. The drive is the worst part (according to my wife). We then headed southward towards Ventura to visit my wife's aunt & uncle. LONG day.

Nice day and hike with the boys. It was fun to be stealthy with them. For a 3 and 5 yr old, this was the perfect adventure. All the parking along the side of the road was blocked off. We parked in the lot for the 120 inch telescope and walked along the road. Fun time.

My wife wanted to show me San Francisco, but I insisted that we at least spend one day outside the city. We had no idea that it is illegal to do this hike? We just parked off the road and walked up it. The Lick Observatory was very interesting as well as the tour.

Date Climbed: Jul 22, 2008

So the signs scared me and the gate was open with someone up there. Decided to continue on the road down the east side of the mountain. Parked in a turnout. Climbed up the opposite ridge of the road up to the summit. Some bushwacking but not bad...although my kids didn't like getting wacked in the face by the brush as I thrashed through and crawled under. No one on top, hiked the road down, gate was now closed.

Drove up today and did the quick technically illegal hike to Copernicus Peak. Uneventful, views were better from Lick observatory.

The long narrow drive up was the hardest part. I wished for my road bike!

I was out driving around the hills and stopped at the observatories. Parked and jogged down the road and up to the fire lookout.

We ran up this one after visiting the observatory. Take the telescope tour, it is quite interesting. Found 2 geocaches too. We kept going to Livermore, 70 miles of twisty road fun. Nobody even puked in my car :-)

Expected it to be at least a bit of a climb, but realized that the drive up to the laboratory was much longer than the 20 minute hike (can't even be called a hike).
View from top was beautiful.

Date Climbed: Feb 2, 2002

Drove up with my two daughters, a long drive up Mount Hamilton Road from San Jose. My wife was out of town, and brought the girls up with me since I was taking care of them for the weekend. Easy 20 minute hike from the roadside just past Mount Hamilton Observatory.

Stopped off on the way home for a chance to play in the snow alongside the road.

Took the quick walk up after driving over from I-5. Not much in the way of hiking options to be had but still worth visiting to me as this has a fire lookout, is a COHP and is also a 3000' prominence summit [towards the bottom end of the list of the top 400 contiguous US summits for P]. Observatory is worth visiting as well.

Hiked up in mega overcast conditions after getting the "it's ok" from the Mt. Hamilton visitor's center (which probably counted for nothing!).
