Climbed with Slide and Cornell via the Wittenberg-Cornell-Slide Trail from Route 47. Arrived at the summit ledges in the fog and waited for things to clear up. Had some great views of the Hudson Valley and the Ashokan Reservoir when the clouds lifted before making the long trek back to the trailhead.
From Woodland Valley To Slide Mtn. Date Climbed: May 2, 2009
Fun route. Trail sucked! Thought for sure that I'd turn an ankle or knee before getting to Slide Mtn. Wonderful views though, and the weather gods spared us! All around good day!
Bushwhack Range Dayhike Date Climbed: Dec 29, 2007
This was a fun one to do in the winter. A group of us dayhiked the "Bushwhack Range" with a car drop, hitting eight peaks: Peekamoose, Table, Lone, Rocky, Balsam Cap, Friday, Cornell and Wittenberg.
Wittenberg has a great view of the reservoir. It's a nice hike to get there, and it's a heck of hike if you continue on to Cornell and Slide, which I did.
Woodland Valley campground is awesome! and i love to do the loop over Wittenberg, Cornel and Slide then back to the campsite. Some really fun short scrambles up there! Oh Yeah, and great views too!
Route Climbed: WCS Loop from Woodland Valley Trailhead Date Climbed: 8/27/05
Spectacular views on a beautiful late-August day. We had the summit to ourselves for but a moment before a group of 31 showed up. I got a great visual of Devil's Path which I'm hoping to tackle in one day...glutton for punishment.
Route Climbed: bushwhack from the west, from the east, by trail Date Climbed: too many times to recount
This was my first peak in the Catskills and the start of a serious addiction. Some of the best views to be had form this summit, of the Hudson Valley, the Devil's Path Mountains, the Black Domes and Kaaterskill High Peak and Round Top. Never fails to disappoint.
