| rough hike, 3.5 miles sand wash,and then the hike starts, loose gravel and rocks. hot today 3 quarts of water wasnt enough, 4 hours 9 minutes from sand stone quarry to peak.did not bag La Padre today big mistake. | |

| I went up to the Turtlehead Peak saddle, along the ridge, and then to La Madre. 3 hours up and 2.5 hours down. It was a big mistake to go up to the saddle. Because I had to clime extra 600 ft. I found one dry wash is connected to the Sandstone quarry Parking and took this way on the way down. Its much easier and faster. | |

| This one was a lot of fun. Hiked up from the Sandstone Quarry parking area in Red Rocks. Followed (more or less) the ascent route provided here by the always helpful SP member MoapaPk: ...http://hwstock.org/mt6/... I didn't do the full loop as shown, but pretty much retraced my steps on the descent. Total of about 9 miles and 3,850 feet vertical. | |

| The scar is just from a landslide, stripping away the trees. It's pretty much one stratum of limestone -- that's the angle of the bedding in that area. | |

| Started at Sandstone Quarry, went up the wash (same cairns from 15 months ago!), to La Madre, then took the ridge west over El Padre (8093'), west over 7900' point, to just before 7986' point, then south down the class 3/4 canyon to near Key. Thr. trail and over E. About 12 miles total, 5100' accum. elev. gain. Went with Mark B. who complained of weakness from a cold, but still made it to top of Madre in less than 3 hrs. The real adventure was yet to come. The ridge W of La Madre is great. Also went from N side in Jan 2002, from Brownstone Basin Nov 2004, and over the east ridge in June 2007 (2x one day!). Met SusanM on top in 2004. | |

| We went up (starting at the Sandstone Quarry) to the Turtlehead Peak saddle, along the ridge, and then to La Madre. 4 hours up and 3 hours down. If you're looking for a shortcut, you can take the wash from the Sandstone Quarry all the way around the Turtlehead Peak ridge. This saves a lot time, needless elevation gain/loss, and is a lot easier. We did this on the way down. | |
