| I knew I should have printed out the SP route page. Got a late start after doing the Mastadon Peak loop, then took off on a more difficult approach, and ended up turning back maybe a quarter mile from the summit. Walked out the last half mile in the dark. There is some really mean cactus up there, but it was still a lot of fun. | |

| We didn't get started until almost noon, so it was late afternoon by the time we set up camp and headed to the peak. The view would have been better in the moring, but it was still really nice late in the day. We did the trip as an overnighter - it's always nice spending the night in the desert under the stars. | |
