| Missed a Sat morning rendezvous with Courtney when I overslept in my car (amazing rain along I-15 on the way--I couldn't drive any more than 30mph with any degree of safety, so I pulled over to sleep), then terrible rain around Zion meant I should look elsewhere. Drove down to the Grand Canyon, and weather there was even worse, with snow in the forecast too. So I drove back to Zion, and found the skies had cleared by the afternoon. I had a couple of hours of daylight, so I headed up to Northgate Peaks to try and salvage something from the day.
I tried West Northgate Peak, but the rock there was still wet from the rain and not climbable. The trail up East Northgate Peak was doable, and I was treated to some spectacular views of the Guardian Angels and the peaks around the Zion Canyon rim. I'll have to go back for West Northgate Peak another time, when the rock's dry. |
