| ...by a large margin! This is an actual climb and is a summit that you must earn. I'm glad that Brasstown is easily accessible so that all can experience the feeling of being 'on top of the world' but, this is the way I like it! Nice views to the north of the granite slabs in the Highlands area! | |

| Took the easy and short route up the Rabun Bald Trail starting at the Kelsey Mountain Road dead end. (It's off NC Road 1628, but actually in Georgia.) Look for the yellow street name sign and the Forest Service Trailhead sign. Easy mile-and-a-half. Brisk day, but the wind must've been gusting over 30 mph and made the "feels like" temp pretty cold. See photos from both this weekend and last weekend. Will go again this summer. Bartram Trail from the north and from the south. | |

| Approached from the Rabun Bald Trail trailhead on Hale Ridge Road (USFS 7), so I was hiking through the Warwoman Wildlife Management Area. About an hour in, I saw two bears rustling through the leaves looking for bugs. Shouted "Hello, bears!" and they took off. Kept chugging uphill for about another ten minutes, then surprised a third bear as I rounded a corner. Well, fair's fair: He surprised me, too. Decided to go home. I thought bears hibernated? | |

| Went to my 8 o' clock class and said, "forget the other two, I'm headin up to the mountains." Took Kelsey Road up to the access road where I parked. Most of the access road was covered in thick ice and snow. Even in the Jeep, I wasn't making it to the parking area at the top of the access road. So had to start from there, about a mile below the trailhead. Even with all the snow and ice, the hike was qutie warm with the sun beating down on me. Was a bit chilly and breezy at the top. I had excellent 360 views with clear blue skys. Great hike. | |

| About 2 inches of snow on 75 percent of the mountain. On the tower windspeeds were above 50 mph and the temperature was about 20 degrees. It was cold and the steepest parts were a little tough in the snow and ice without poles or crampons. However, beautiful views from the top made it worthwhile. | |

| Drove up to Beegum Gap. My measurements give 3.4 miles round trip and 1060 feet of elevation gain. Took me 65 minutes including ten on the top. Great views. | |
