Backpacked to Watanga Lake and climbed Watanga after setting up camp. Snowshoes were required from 10K all the way to summit. A whole lot of work!

The west side of the divide in RMNP sees a relatively small amount of traffic. I found this to be true on Watanga. The actual summit is suprisingly ruggedly when compared to the overall flat appearance of the summit plateau.

miztflipWantanga Lake Loop  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 30, 2008

I did all the peaks around Watanga Lake. There was still lots of snow the last mile to the lake and all around the lake. It made for slower going but cleared up once I made treeline. I started with Watanga, crossed over Mt Adams, Roaring, and finished with Twin Peaks. Lots of old summit registers up there and great views into Paradise. Climbed 11,831 and ll,801 west of Neva the next day and found lots of snow up there as well.

Lots of alpine flowers between the two summits.

I loved this mountain. It's such an easy hike with just the right amount of routefinding. With good weather, Watanga makes for a stressless and memorable day.
