TiogaBradfordSection hike of AT  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 26, 2008

Started at the base of Brasstown Bald and hiked 23 miles to Dicks Creek Gap, mostly on the Appalachian Trail (took Jacks Knob trail from Brasstown to the AT; its only 2 or so miles until they connect).

Fantastic weekend; good fall colors (though not quite the peak) and pleasantly surprised at the lack of people on the trail. This was probably less crowded because its away from some of the other more visited nearby landmarks (Blood Mountain, etc.).

Views from Rocky Mountain, only a few miles to the south of Tray on the AT, are, in my opinion, much more open and thus better. The view from Tray is a little closed in by vegetation.

Date Climbed: Feb 10, 2007

Made the short hike up Tray Mountain from the Tray Gap parking area off of Forest Service Road 72. Patches of snow and ice throughout the trail to the summit. Clear skies gave me great views of Mount Yonah, Brasstown Bald, and Lake Burton.

Great weather and views this day. Myself and a group of backpackers camped out in what we called Tray Mtn Village around the shelter after coming down from the summit.

A nice day to be up on the mountain. The rhododendrans covered the trail on the way to the top which made it seem like we were hiking through a tunnel rather than on top of a ridge.

iamaclimberRoute Climbed: Appalachian Trail from the North Date Climbed: July 1999  Sucess!

My wife and I hiked the Appalachian trail through Georgia in 1999. I remember being very tired at the top of Tray Mountain because we reached the summit very late in the day. Very limited views in the Summer. I have been back two times since then and winter is the time to go for the view.
