Very enjoyable hike, beautiful day. My Son Tanner and I Did Shafer the day before after a day of him Mountain Biking. Got up in the morning and stashed our big packs and got to the top. Some question on the summit. Is it where the geocache can with a register or the Rock that Idahokid has pictured? We did both just to be safe...
I came up from the North because I forgot money to pay with at the trailhead. It turned out to be pretty fun as the route i took was pretty much a class 3 scramble over solid and rotten granite with a nasty bushwhack near the top. I might post a route for it here. The air was smoky until later in the day so the view wasn't that great. Also did Shafer Butte.
The kids first summit at 13 months. Took her out of the back pack on top and she went straight for the summit register. Great family hike and picnic area. Nice place to get away very close to Boise.
Shafter Butter Picnic Area Date Climbed: Sep 17, 2006
First time going up here to actual summit. Very nice fall day, with a little snow left here and there from friday night. With the rain/snow the air was much clearer than it has been with all the fires.
Route Climbed: Followed the chair 3 cat track Date Climbed: Feb 11, 1997
Got off Chair 3 on Bogus and rode the skiers left cat track, jumped off our boards and walked the rest of the way up. We got some fun turns on the north side of Mores back into Bogus.
Nice little set of trails near Boise. Try biking the back trails in the summer (stay off the interpretive trails). You can access them from anywhere - 8th street, Rocky Canyon, Bogus Basin, the ridge road and make the trip as long as you want.
Route Climbed: Winter From South Date Climbed: January 21st/06
Snowshoed with IdahoSummits on a beautiful winter day. Combined with downhill skiing or an ascent of Shafer Butte, this can make for a long and enjoyable day in the mountains.
