Awesome views, especially coming down the east ridge. Minor brush on the south ridge, definitely more on the east ridge. Wear pants if taking East route.

This is a fun peak to do in the San Gabriels. I did this one with a rather large Sierra Club group.

Mountain ImpulseRoute from Shoemaker Rd  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Feb 24, 2007

Beautiful day on a beautiful ridge. It is quite a jaunt to get this 5,800 foot peak, but nowhere near the effort it takes to do neighbor Big Iron. Anyway, I highly recommend this peak. The long sweeping ridge that takes you there is awesome. I was really impressed by the dramatic drop into what Rob on his page for this mountain calls "the notch." The triangular bump from which you drop into the notch I've heard referred to as "Baby Rattlesnake." Pretty certain I saw Wingding out there, but only based on having seen a sole female coming down the mountain and her log entry for the same date because we've never met.

TacoDelRioRattlesnake Via Shithead Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Dec 16, 2005

Parked at Shoemaker canyon road. Walked to end of the road, which dead ends on a ridge. Went up to the ridge, arrive there at 0900, took that ridge up past a few false peaks that pissed me off bigtime. Reached the summit at 1400. You go slower with a hefty rucksack, and "other" military gear totaling about 80lbs or so. Took a walk down after consuming nearly all 4qts of my water that afternoon. Became dehydrated and started mumbling and acting like an ass. Got back to my car at sunset. Bring more water next time.
