mbollinoGreat alternate to South Spur  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 4, 2001

Warm!! Too warm! High winds kept us up all night lulling us into sleeping in way too late. Started for the top around sunrise and met sloppy snow from the start. Lots of cracks were open forcing us to hug the climber's right of the Mazama glacier. More than a couple punch through on thin bridges. Late start had us hiking back out to Cold Springs at sundown. Beautiful light and flowers, combined with endorphines driven by a long day of moving, made the hike out surreal.

osatrikOSAT Rendezvous  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 24, 1995

One OSAT team went up the South Spur, while another team of 12 did the Mazama. We met on the top. It is my only Adams summit, so I'm probably one of a small percent of climbers who have summmited Adams but never gone up the SS. Fabulous, world class glassade down the upper part of the SSpur before traversing back to the glacier to retrieve our camping gear.

CORDILLERAORIENTALWinds on the Mazama
Date Climbed: Jul 30, 2006

Turned back due to high winds approx 1000 feet above Sunrise Camp(8300 ft). Great trip anyway. Had the camp all to ourselves for most of the week end. We had a large party(11), as this was a fund raising climb for breast cancer research (FHCRC, the "Hutch" in Seattle). Avoid South Spur and its crowds.....climb the Mazama instead.

cdogMazama weekend  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 6, 2003

climbed this with my girlfriend Amy in a 2 day weekend.
Would have been nice to spend another night on the mountain, but it is a reasonable 2 day route for fit parties.
We left from the normal FS trailhead, but those approaching from the reservation have it easier.
Brought the standard glacier gear and stashed it at the top of the glacier as we joined the dog route to the summit with the masses.
If you enjoy solitude and have basic glacier skills, this is much better than the south side!
