I started late, at 10.30 am, after getting a camping spot and backcountry permit for the next day on Indian Garden. Walked down to Tipoff and went up the same way.

Did this trail twice. I love it because its so brutal. Plenty of heat and no water. The views are off the charts, and shade is a joke!

farrisglDay Round Trip: Down Bright Angel up Kaibab  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 15, 2002

I started early in the morning with 5 of my French Business Colleagues. Cold morning with the wind blowing but at the bottom short sleave weather. Left for the return up the Kaibab. Great way to do the day round trip. Slightly overcast made for perfect hiking weather. The Kaibab is spectacular!

Headed down to the Phantom Ranch on this trail. Stayed a couple of nights and hiked, then climbed out of the canyon along the Bright Angel trail.

This is the mountain lying down. Flip-flops are not
recommended. I didn't count the miles, I just started
out at Bright Angel Lodge ... and returned the following
day. Saw several desert bighorns - one looked like it had
survived an intense battle. Not recommended in July,
unless you want to lose 5 or 6 pounds.

Took Charles' suggestion and hiked down South Kaibab and up Bright Angel with a group of Outdoors Club friends. We had chilly weather above, and a 90F beach scene at the river, a swing of close to 70 degrees between lunch time and camping that night. Piped water was flowing at two points by the river. The Grand Canyon delivers constant jaw-dropping scenery, even more so than Sierra trails. Amazing.

An awesome day hike. It was 90 degrees when we got down to the river and snowing when we got back up to the top. It was nice to sit at the bar in the El Tovar and look at the snow.

One of the most spectacular hikes I've done. I didn't think I'd be so overwhelmed by the scale of the Canyon. All around a great day!

Second time to Phantom ranch within a week. Came down Bright Angel and went up South Kaibab. Just love the hike after Indian Gradens. Love the Vishnu Schist and the Zoraster Granite. Used Yak track walker as there was ice present at the start of the trail.

Awesome one-day run from the South Rim to the North Rim (via Bright Angel and N Kaibob) and back (via N and S Kaibob). Next time I'll descend the S Kaibob and ascend the Bright Angel as the S Kaibob is a grueling steep nasty climb after a full day out. In total (not counting the 3 mile walk back to Mather Campground (no shuttle service after 7:30pm)) was 46 miles, 11,400' of gain, 17 hours.
