Liba Hardekopfgreat run...  Sucess!

I guess local runners know this trail so well. There is a race in August, which goes all the way to the top. I do not know how many times I ran up and down this trail - maybe 20x? It is a great hike/run trail.

Parked at the cable car parking, and started the connecting trail to get to the La Luz trailhead. Couldn't find it, but ended up the La Luz trail anyway a bit further up the mountain. Took the cablecar down.

forjanPre Balloon Fiesta hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 10, 2008

Joan and I hiked La Luz as part of our pre Balloon Fiesta the next couple of days. Took the tram down and then I had to trail run back to our car (it's more like 3.6 miles from the lower tram station to the La Luz trailhead parking lot).

Nice morning hike to the top (Sandia Crest house). Cool but sunny & calm. Just under 4 hrs car-to-car.

Wow, awesome route, long and arduous and treacherous even in the snow but so worth it! And plenty of geocaches too! ^_^ Take a lot of supplies if you're doing it in the winter / early spring in case you feel like you want to back track!

Oh lordy can't say how many times I went up or down the La Luz trail! First was in October and there had been two snow falls so the upper portion was in some pretty good snow. Also use to hike down after work at the upper tram terminal, however many times you do it and weather its up or down its always a great hike.

GerrySGreat Workout

Watch for snakes. This trail is cool in the morning shade and hot as hell in the afternoon sun. The Tram makes a nice down-climb.

Dan the JonesFirst Sandia hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 1, 2005

Being my first Sandia Mountain hike, I was enthralled by the change in climate zones. Now everytime I look up at the mountains I remember the all the smells and sights.
