West Ridge with a 3rd class newbie! Date Climbed: May 31, 2009
Had a blast -- except for the bugs and close encounters with PO early on.
1st time up and I had the pleasure of being led by a no longer 3rd class rookie!

This hike was brutal for me, but worth it! What made it tough, was the fact that I just got off working a mid-night shift & the heat was relentless. The class 3 sections were fun, although coming down the climbers trail, at times was hard to follow.
Half circle around Strawberry Date Climbed: Dec 16, 2007
My first trip up Strawberry, and I forgot my maps at home. I missed the ridge route from Josephine Saddle, assuming the trail that went north from there (and not shown on the USGS topo) would eventually get to the peak. It did... six miles later, from the opposite side. We descended the west ridge for some fun scrambling on the way down.
Still too much snow to make the final class 3 section safely without gear. We stopped right before it, which still made a fun morning. Clear skies and excellent views.
I loved this hike to no end and can't wait to do it again. I think next time up colby I will have to check out Josephine though. The class 3 scramble was a lot of fun.
This is great peak. I hiked up with Mike(gigamike), we had a great time. I would say this is now my favorite SoCal peak. The only problem we had was the HEAT. The scrambling was great, it made for an interesting trip. The ammo box is still up there but the register is missing, we signed a piece of paper I had in my pocket and stuck it in the box.
Took a break from the snow and tried some class 3 scrambling. Tons of fun! Very nice day with little wind! There are still patches of snow on the north side.
I went down the East Ridge.
Route Climbed: West Ridge Date Climbed: Feb 11, 2006
Did Josephine Peak first and then to Strawberry along its West Ridge. The West Ridge contains the only sections of 3d class rock that I know of along any regular route to a summit in the San Gabriel front range. From Strawberry's summit we descended the use trail on the east ridge and then over to Mt. Lawlor.
