| After realizing that MSR has 2 fuel pumps and the XGK pump i brought was incompatible with the dragonfly stove,.. we had an awesome time. It is a fun mile with lots of up down over and around, great opportunities to stem and smear. We made a loop out of the overnight and had a great time of it! We did the loop entering via Speck Pond trail and coming out the notch trail using the campsite at the base of the notch. | |

| Agreed. You just have to slow down and have fun with it. I think it took me 1h30m to do the mile. One time through an obstacle pushing/pulling the backpack....drop the pack...go back to pick up my dog Rainier....then carrying her through...made for some fun times! | |

| It is said that the Notch is the hardest mile on the AT. There are a lot more grueling/harder miles in my opinion, but it is the most fun I think. It is perhaps the slowest mile though. We took 1h45 to traverse the 1.1 miles and had to take off our packs several times each. Some of the tight fits reminded me of caving especially since cold air from the boulder caves around and below us filled the notch. Snow and ice were also still present from the winter under overhangs and in deep recesses. It was slow but very entertaining. | |
